Anyone follow the nicotine studies that started this time last year as a treatment for COVID?

Tobacco users are significantly underrepresented in COVID cases which is what kicked off a number of studies none of which I've been able to find published results on. Now the newest vaccines are being manufactured using tobacco plants as there is a protein that keeps the virus from binding and reproducing. This was the same logic that kicked off the nicotine studies in the first place.

Also, stupid GoF virus spike binds to cholinergic receptors, possibly leading to the chronic fatigue of long covid.

Guess what else binds to those receptors?

And that's why it's protective.

In the early days, the CDC or some similar agency urged smokers to stop—and also vapers. Is there any evidence on whether vapers are doing better or worse than the average?

There was a study in France using nicotine patches but no results were posted yet. Looks like began in October 2020: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04583410

I'd be shocked if they got anything like that out to the public. This country sucks

There are no results yet for the clinical trials. There are some in silico studies by Farsalinos and Poulas, concerning the docking of the coronavirus spike protein to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.

I started using nicotine replacement therapy early when observation showed reduced covid-19 hospitalizations amongst smokers. Still on a low dose, about 5 mg per day, after vaccination. Helps me to focus.

There is an in vitro study of antiviral effects of plant lectins against coronavirus:

Interestingly, leeks were even more effective than tobacco extracts.
