“We at Sahpra have considered all of this, and the approach that we will be taking going forward is that we will facilitate a controlled, compassionate, access programme for Ivermectin. “This does not mean that our position changes around the lack of availability of scientific data, but we had to as a regulator have very in-depth discussions around the context which we find ourselves in with the pandemic with limited options,” said Sahpra chief executive Dr Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela “We hope the controlled access will enable us that the product is used properly and limit the black market,” she said “It’s important to note that Sahpra has listened and heard what people have been saying about Ivermectin. The programme will be open to all patients. We will review every application as it comes through,” said Semete-Makokotlela She said healthcare professionals would be central to the application for use in their patients but will unveil the process in more detail in the coming days. During a hearing before the US senate homeland security and governmental affairs committee last week, Dr Pierre Kory, a pulmonary and critical care specialist at Aurora St Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, described Ivermectin as a “wonder drug” with immensely powerful antiviral and anti-inflammatory agents. Kory said: “Ivermectin is highly safe, widely available, and low cost. Its discovery was awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine, and is already included on the WHO’s World’s List of Essential Medicines. Ivermectin is effectively a miracle drug against Covid-19.”

African News Agency (ANA) reporting after this change in South Africa:
https://youtu.be/zzk8iC_PPCU SA-born Dr Paul Marik the pioneer for ivermectin use against Covid-19 Jan 28, 2021
At the forefront of the ivermectin debate around the world and the man attributed to finding the “data signals” that the drug can be used to treat Covid-19 is South African born Dr Paul Marik. As the Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in the United States, Marik has over thirty years of experience in a number of medical fields, including pharmacology, anesthesiology and critical care. Marik received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and was an ICU attending at Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto. He did a Critical Care Fellowship in Canada and has worked in various teaching hospitals in the US since 1992. A respected author, Marik has written over 400 peer reviewed journal articles, 80 book chapters and authored four critical care books. He has been cited over 35 000 times in peer reviewed publications. Currently, Marik and Pulmonary and critical care specialist Pierre Kory are heading up a non-profit organization called the Front-Line Covid-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC) where together with a group of experts they develop effective treatment protocols to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. The group discovered that ivermectin, an anti-parasitic medicine, has highly potent anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties against Covid-19. According to several studies, the drug has been shown to decrease viral load, prevent transmission of the virus, and reduce mortality in critically ill patients.

The non-profit organization was formed by leading critical care specialists in March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic. The FLCCC reviews and conducts its own clinical trials of Ivermectin and the group’s manuscript was recently accepted for publication. Kory says the FLCCC was not the first group to research the use of the drug against Covid-19, it is rather the first group to bring it to the world's attention. “Dr Paul Marik was really the first one to identify the data signals showing the efficacy for Ivermectin. He did that after around five small clinical trials came out and saw that the drug appeared to be working,” said Kory. Originally from South Africa, Marik has written over 400 peer reviewed journal articles, 50 book chapters and authored four critical care books. “All of the doctors in this group from the beginning researched every aspect of Covid-19 and we also learned at the patient’s bedside. All of us have worked so hard in the ICU’s, studying, learning, and figuring out how to treat patients. Our group has received international attention for our protocols and our identification of therapies that work,” said Kory.
