Ivermectin in the media - commentary (2021-01-06)The irony is that doctors who claim to be protecting people and speak on media about the early 2019 Univ Monash study and the "high doses required" argument, but fail to adequately represent the fact that the numerous studies that have arrived in the last 3 months are not using very high doses.
Some of them have demonstrated results with just a single dose for partial protection over a month (Indian hospital AIIMS), while others have used it one time for post-exposure prophylaxis of close contacts in the home (Egypt Zagazig Univ study).
So right there they are misrepresenting or deliberately ignorant of the data. So why are they eager to come on media and speak on a subject they are not conversant in?
Here is a recent example - Dr Jason Bowling, UT Health, San Antonio - at the 0:50 minute mark:

You may have seen posts about the medication Ivermectin on social media. It was also was a topic mentioned during a senate committee hearing.
So the question is, should the MATH+ folks be shamed for their detailed work, or these doctors who appear on media without familiarity with current state of the art - are they the modern day quacks?
Perhaps this is in response to this story on a doctor using Ivermectin in San Antonio:

"There is going to be doubters out there listening to this story," he said. "Many of my colleagues are going to question this. But I ask them to read the articles. Now, I feel confident that we have some improving and emerging medications to help the patients."

Within the last month, Dr. Pho started using the drug on his patients. "About 50-60 patients, there is no hospitalization," he said. "Nobody has gotten sicker and has required oxygen to be hospitalized." He said half those patients were over the age of 65. If a patient is sick with COVID, Pho prescribes ivermectin with a couple of other drugs and supplements. He does believe the key is ivermectin. "Using all of these medicines, particularly the ivermectin, so far has helped the patients get better quicker and preventing them from getting pneumonia," he said.
Then we have this article by doctors associated with some of the Bangladesh studies - one doctor of Bangladeshi origin in the US is at the Mount Sinai, while the other co-author is affiliated with the Bangladeshi fountain supporting the work:

Not too long ago someone commented on here that ivermectin adoption was going to be inversely proportional to a country's medical hubris. That post really stood out to me.
