Ivermectin and benzos?

Interaction checkers don't show an interaction. But I'm wondering if ivermectin is truly GABAergic, and could it cause a fluoroquinolone-like reaction?

There's a possibility that IVM could cross the blood brain barrier when taken with benzos and cause related problems. I haven't heard of any cases where it is documented to have happened.

Would its ability to cross the blood brain barrier be dose dependent for both the benzo and the IVM?

They’ll probably interact. There are many animal studies showing the effects. Nothing super bad but they appear to interact.

Talk to a pharmacist. Just tell them straight up you are taking these things, is that a problem. Hopefully one will just give you a quick straight answer.

This is what I’m worried about but with Zoloft. I emailed the FLCCC website but haven’t heard back.

I just asked Dr Pierre Corey on a livestream on YouTube about taking ivermectin on an SSRI and he didn’t seem to think it would be a problem. Although he did say he isn’t giving advice on what we should or shouldn’t do. A few others did confirm that they have combined the two without any problems so I’m 99% confident that it’s fine. Plus the amount of people that take SSRIs and ivermectin I’m sure if it was a problem I would be able to find a case of it happening but I can’t. Just because an SSRI may cross the blood brain barrier it isn’t like it’s opened a door and now any other drug can just walk in, that’s not how it works or as far as I can tell anyway. I think the safest course of action is to take a very small dose first time just to see what happens but it’s almost certainly not a problem.

Thanks! That is great information. I am on an antidepressant in addition to my benzodiazepine. Antidepressants work differently than benzodiazepines, though. Benzos work on GABA receptors, as does ivermectin I believe. Did he say anything about benzos (i.e. Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Valium)?

No sorry I should’ve asked about benzodiazepines as well. I think the only way to find out for sure is to try a tiny bit of ivermectin and if you feel fine then wait a week or two and try a little bit more. If you get any sort of side effect from taking a trace amount then probably a good idea to avoid. That’s probably what I’ll do.

Here it says that it could interact with benzos by potentiating it's effects.

I take Xanax and have never had an issue with IVM.
