Whiteboard Doctor has a good video analysis of the paper:

IVM and vanilla pudding also have similar results.

On top of being an ineffective treatment and the equivalent of shooting blanks at the attacking enemy, there is some disturbing news about remdesivir.

Researchers found that the drug permanently stops the activity of an enzyme called CES-2, which is found in the intestine, liver and kidney and is needed for the breakdown of many medications.

Permanent is too strong of a term at this early stage. Persistent is more applicable.

Remdesivir does not treat the virus unless the body has additional specific enzymes, which are not found in all patients. It can also cause other antiviral drugs, such as those used for HIV/AIDs and hepatitis C, to not work properly.

This may indicate that antivirals, such as IVM, will not be effective after remdesivir is used. I am looking into this possibility and will follow up.

Bottom line - while it's well known that rem is an ineffective treatment with high costs and marginal benefit that often delays effective treatment it now appears that use of rem will prevent effective treatments concurrent or sequential to its use.

This is medicine at it worst. Expensive, ineffective and possibly dangerous.
