Belgian virologist Marc Wathelet puts ivermectin as a cornerstone in his plan to deal with the pandemic. He wrote an open letter to Belgian prime minister, which you can read in the posted link.

Some info about Marc Wathelet: he has been issueing warnings on the coronavirus to Belgian government very early on. His warnings were laughed at, the health minister even called him a "dramaqueen". Some background info on this virologist in following article (in dutch): https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2020/07/03/kanaries-in-de-corona-koolmijn-de-viroloog-die-weggezet-werd-al/

Sorry to be negative but i think there is absolutely zero chance of this proposal being taken up. If the will existed for such solutions this would've been in use months ago. Too much money has been invested in other solutions and too much of future policy appears riding on the ongoing crisis. Covid simply provides to many opportunities for it to be eradicated. Imo.

Still, this is great news and all avenues should be exhausted. Good to see this continues to be pitched to govts. Its a fascinating drug and appears to offer a genuine solution. Further, I've heard speculation that this may be effective for other viruses such as colds and flu... imagine the headlines!

I've heard speculation that this may be effective for other viruses such as colds and flu... imagine the headlines!

And cancer, and alcohol abuse.

I'm high-risk and will have the opportunity to get the vaccine relatively early, like March perhaps. Then I'll face the decision about whether to continue to taking ivermectin. I might continue -- if only because of the side-effects I have noticed to date, (1) remission of decades-long itching (apparently I was a mites colony) and maybe (2) less inclination to drink. I have never been diagnosed as an alcoholic but I've been concerned about that possibility for a long time. I was going through a box of wine every 3-4 days before I started taking ivermectin, at which point stopped drinking alcohol entirely except for special occasions (election night, Christmas). The alcohol abuse effect has some supporting mouse studies. I wish a nice big ivermectin vs covid19 trial would happen and track alcohol use as a secondary outcome -- but that's very unlikely unfortunately.

Good side effects! Didnt know it may help with alcohol problems too, or cancer. It a fascinating drug. Again I've heard talk that it is effective against bed bugs and many other parasites. Apparently its highly toxic to invertebrates but completely benign to vertebrates, apart from certain dog breeds and turtles. Interesting article with some background here

LOL. At the time that article came out, there were very few research results, and ivermectin was being panned as unworkable because of a couple letters to Lancet that pointed out that the Monash 48 hours study (that kicked off interest in ivermectin) used concentrations that were not feasible in people. Derek repeated that argument, which got me angry. (The argument is bogus by the way.)

That paper was my first acquaintance with Derek. I have since come to respect him a lot. I guess it's time for me to forgive him.

Other than the CONCENTRATION TOO HIGH!!! part, it's a pretty good article! There's a LOT more background in this sub, if you care to dig in. 😍 ⏳ 💪 🤣

What are we to make of his dosing schedule for prophylaxis? These recommended dosing schedules that seem to change every week or two are off-putting. FLCCC started out with 0.2mg/kg on day 1 and day 3 and then one dose every 4 weeks. Now FLCCC says day 1 and day 3, then one dose weekly for 10 weeks, then one dose every 2 weeks. And here comes Dr. Wathelet saying " For prophylaxis, 0,3 mg/kg of Ivermectin, up to 18 mg, twice at 72 hour interval every 2 or 4 weeks could be the starting point."

I don't believe there are any RCTs comparing different dosing schedules for prophylaxis (within one study), which is why so many are clamoring for more trials. Anyone have a opinion based on the known kinetics of Ivermectin, including serum half-life and storage in fat tissue?

I am personally following the dosing from the FLCCC. I trust them and i'm happy to adjust my dose if they update their advice. It is such a safe drug that i'm comfortable despite my dosing being pretty rough (given it is a gunk coming at speed out of a tube). Sorry can't be more helpful.

gunk coming at speed out of a tube

If too much comes out, you can retract the plunger and it will go back into the tube.

Correct: it's all guesswork, and very likely to remain so; AFAIK there are no trials comparing different dosing schedules for prophylaxis, and I will be very surprised if there ever is one. The "it accumulates in the tissues" idea is new, unique to the FLCCC. What appears to be the supporting research was posted to the sub a couple days ago. There are relevant posts in /r/gettingIvermectin too.

Two excerpts of the Dutch article:

“ February 28, 2020. Virologist Marc Wathelet publishes an open letter, addressed to Minister of Health Maggie De Block. He writes in that letter that our country is doing too little to prepare for a possible corona pandemic. He also thinks De Block minimizes the danger. "Your statements make it seem that you are not fully aware of the kind of danger Belgium and the rest of the world are facing". Wathelet writes in his letter that the new corona virus is very contagious and that there is no vaccine yet. He asks whether Belgium does have enough hospital beds in intensive care units. Are we prepared for a pandemic?Maggie De Block is not impressed. She posted a short, poisonous response on Twitter: "Another drama queen." “

further on:

“Wathelet is an outsider in the world of virology. He doesn't work in one of the big university labs or research centers like most virologists. He built a lab himself at home in Villers-la-Ville in Walloon Brabant. From there he works as a scientific consultant. Until 2015, Wathelet did work for large research institutions, especially in the United States. He also had private laboratories at the University of Cincinnati and the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also published two studies on coronaviruses during that period. The last of those studies dates back to 2013, but Wathelet continues to follow his field. "I've spent about twelve years of my life studying coronaviruses," he says. "Of course you can't publish all your work, but I know the subject through and through." “
