What's the latest on coronavirus treatments? (Australia 20/11/02). ABC Health Report interviews Professor David Jans from Monash University. If you cast your mind back to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, all the talk was about treatments with US President Donald Trump asking questions about oral bleach and strongly promoting hydroxychloroquine which is now known not to work. Things have moved on. We also know that certain anti-HIV drugs don't work either and that the antiviral remdesivir is disappointing. But there are reports that monoclonal antibodies might work, that blocking the receptor for the virus might be promising and - returning to one of our early reports - that the anti-parasitic medication ivermectin has not yet fallen out of the race. Guest: Professor David Jans Professor, Monash University, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; NHMRC Senior Principal Fellow Host: Dr Norman Swan

Please post the transcript here when ready. This is a good interview, the first to reach the ABC beyond the Monash study in April.
Probably the best line from Professor David Jans is, "I think there really is little point in presuming it's not going to work until you've shown it's not going to work." and he refers to the growing amount of evidence and the excellent safety record of the drug, having worked with it for 10 years.

Please note that I listened to this on the radio. The audio podcast and transcript will become available soon (within the next 24 hours).
Australian investigators are becoming more confident and vocal about the use of ivermectin as a covid-19 treatment.
