The NEJM paper isn't accessible to the uninitiated, like me. If you have access to NEJM articles, please weigh in.

I'm posting now because someone tweeted an image of the results.

The kid took a bit (15%) more than the normal dose of ivermectin (0.23mg instead of the usual .2mg). 2.5 hours later he started showing signs of Central Nervous System problems. By 6 hours he was an a coma and had a bunch of other problems.

As is the case 99.999% of the time, he fully recovered within 48 hours. The woman who had CNS problems after taking 12mg of ivermectin every day for 2 weeks recovered in two days also.

This kid had a very rare pair of mutations. I don't know how rare. Maybe it's just him (not likely).

Possible connection? This table from a study of neurological adverse effects has a patient who went into coma 3 times after taking ivermectin. Same mutation?

Based on this weak evidence, we may conjecture that the frequency of this mutation is on the order of 1/billion.

See how I mimiced scientistese there? :)
