Some 600 medical brigades began on Friday the house-to-house search of people infected with the new coronavirus in La Paz, a region that in recent weeks has become one of the most affected by the pandemic in Bolivia.
In the empty streets of downtown La Paz, each brigade made up of three doctors accompanied by the military could be seen conducting searches and rapid tests to identify those who were likely infected with COVID-19.
Is this possible? 3 doctors * 600 brigades, and tests that are fast enough, seemingly done with portable testing devices? Are doctors necessary? Surely 1 doctor (at most) would suffice?! Someone trained to do the swab and operate the test device would suffice.
People who test positive will be given a kit of medications, among them are ivermectin and azithromycin, in addition to ibuprofen and others, said the municipal secretary for Comprehensive Health and Sports, VerĂ³nica Hurtado.
Ivermectin + AZT is an interesting choice. 6 trials are looking at that combination (maybe, I didn't inspect the trials to see if all of them use the combination, they could be in competing arms)
The Ministry of Health approved the use of ivermectin in May to combat COVID-19.
A resolution established that since Friday in La Paz there will be no activity for families to wait for the brigades.
In recent weeks the capital, the seat of the national government, has topped the list of infected in the country. The Ministry of Health has reported an average of 700 new cases per day. The Andean nation accumulates 106,065 infections and 4,305 deaths.
Revilla reported that in six days they will try to reach 43% of the homes in La Paz. The operation, called mega raking, aims to identify suspected and asymptomatic cases to cut the chain of infections due to the fact that hospitals and intensive care units are full.
The population of La Paz is 244K. At (wag) 6 people/home, that's 17.5K homes. 600 brigades * 6 days = about 5 homes per brigade. Seems low. Math error?
The other regions that were initially hit by the virus have carried out similar campaigns. In Santa Cruz, in the east of the country, more than 8,000 cases were detected in July.
In Cochabamba, in the center of the country, the authorities assured that they have already reached 70% of the households in the city.

They are indeed in competing arms, and in small cohorts. Only 3 of those studies propose the combination.
