This is the first twitter thread I've posted to the sub. I don't understand the numbers. Can someone please shed light?

For example:

COVID-19 Positive Cases (daily average)
June: 46 (8.0% of the State)
July: 61 (3.3% of the State)
August*: 39 (1.6% of the State)

How can the July average daily positive cases go UP, relative to June -- but the % of the State (??) go down -- by more than half. ???

because itajai is just a section of a state of brazil, its percentage compared to the rest of the state (santa catarina) has gone down because more people in santa catarina got covid 19. theres 6.27 million people in santa catarina and theres 200k in itajai.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to tell us, but it doesn't look like we're seeing any kind of mass prophylactic effect.

If you look at the 2nd last column in this spreadsheet (28/7-), it shows that the rate of new cases in Itajai is lower that all other major cities in the state (Santa Catarina), since 28th July.
