Coronavirus: TMH Jamshedpur to use Ivermectin, Doxycycline drugs for curbing the rise of 68 dead
After starting Convalescent Plasma Therapy for treating COVID-19 positive patients, Tata Main Hospital ( TMH) has decided to add Ivermectin and Doxycycline to its COVID19 treatment protocol.
The hospital is also using Remdesivir and Favipiravir anti-viral medicines among COVID-19 patients under Emergency Use Authorisation. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has given approval for the same.
Ivermectin tablets are being used in many hospitals of the country including AIIMS, Lady Hardinge Medical College and Max Hospital in Delhi. Ivermectin, a tablet used to treat parasitic infections like head lice, scabies, river blindness, strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, showed effective results on COVID-19 in various studies conducted by various researchers.
Doxycycline along with Ivermectin has yielded near-miraculous results in COVID 19 in different countries. A team of doctors have claimed that their research on the combination of two widely used drugs has yielded astounding results in curing the patients with acute symptoms of the coronavirus.
During a telephonic media interaction, Dr Rajan Choudhry, general manager, medical services, Tata Steel said that so far total of 1455 patients have been tested positive at the hospital out of which 1311 patients are from East Singhbhum, four from West Singhbhum, 126 from Seraikela Kharswan. At present 467 patients are admitted while 920 have been discharged so far. In total 68 people have died at TMH. He informed that the recovery rate of the hospital is 62.2 per cent at present.
“ TMH is using Remdesivir and Favipiravir in indicated cases. Tocilizumab is expected to be available soon. The hospital is also adding Ivermectin and Doxycycline to its COVID19 treatment protocol,” the general manager informed.
TMH has also tied up with Hotel Sonnet for using its premises as COVID care unit. Moreover, the hospital has converted GT hostel 1, 4 and 3 as COVID care units. The hospital has 890 beds available for COVID treatment so far.
TMH has also appealed for plasma donation from those patients who have recovered. As of now no medicine has been evolved for an effective treatment of COVID, but people who have recovered from COVID have antibodies — proteins the body uses to fight off infections — to the disease in their blood. The blood from people who have recovered is called convalescent plasma which is the liquid portion of the blood. Researchers have evolved that convalescent plasma can be given to people with severe COVID to boost their ability to fight the virus.
