This is another "We need to wait for the research" article, with some new information about Peru.
Various clinical trials are currently underway regarding the use of ivermectin and its association with other drugs; A total of 26 studies have been registered, of which 6 are in the recruitment phase.
Despite the little evidence available, since mid-April the use of ivermectin has spread in Latin American countries such as Bolivia, Ecuador and Paraguay; however, its use was regulated only at the beginning of May; in Peru the situation has not been different, this drug being included in the national care protocol of COVID-19, through the ministerial resolution dated May 8.
As of June 8, Peru registers 199,696 confirmed cases and 5,571 deaths; Within the most affected regions is the Peruvian jungle. In the cities of Pucallpa and Iquitos, the rapid increase in cases has exceeded the response capacity of their precarious health system, which has led to self-medication, hoarding and increased costs of certain drugs, also due to the fact that the population is has ruled from unreliable information from social networks.
Given the shortage of ivermectin, the consumption of presentations for veterinary use has been generated, reporting unpublished cases of complications such as muscle necrosis, therefore, greater control of the sale of drugs by health authorities is needed.
Death of muscle tissue? That's a new one. I'm highly skeptical.
In Peru there is talk about the possible benefits of ivermectin compared to SARS-CoV-2; however, these must be demonstrated not only by studies with the highest possible level of evidence, but also that have been thoroughly evaluated, both in their methodology and in the quality of their results, in order to avoid falling into errors that may cause a negative impact on the scientific community and that in the long term affects the population.
Riiiiight -- the time to worry about the scientific community is during a pandemic killing 100s of 1000s of people (633,465 world-wide at 4:42 EST 2020-07-23).
They name ivermectin as being in shortage and then blame muscle necrosis on other unnamed veterinary drugs vaguely accused of being recklessly consumed by people.
The scientific community thing is an obvious give-away that it's biased towards more expensive medications.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks!
