Not much here, just the traditional "Don't use ivermectin, etc. when the drug efficacy is unproven."

A Facebook post suggests that the drugs azithromycin, nitazoxanide and ivermectin are able to cure covid-19 if used at the onset of symptoms. In a document that provides recommendations based on scientific evidence, the Brazilian Societies of Infectious Diseases, Tisiology and Pneumology and the Brazilian Association of Intensive Medicine, however, do not recommend the use of these drugs for the treatment of the virus, since there is no scientific evidence to ensure their effectiveness. (read more below)

In the comments of the post, there are reports of people who used these drugs to fight the disease and would have been successful. The Facebook post even offers recommendations for times and doses that are supposed to cure patients with the new coronavirus.

In an interview with Comprova, infectious disease specialist Alexandre Naime Barbosa, a professor at the Botucatu School of Medicine at Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp) said that “all strategies, be it hydroxychloroquine or any other (azithromycin, ivermectin and nitazoxanide), are being studied, and the use of personal experience is not justified because this is not science, this is empiricism ”.

"because this is not science, this is empiricism". Does that make sense? Aren't clinical trials empirical research?

Azithromycin is an antibiotic with an antibacterial effect, that is, it treats many infections from bacteria. In addition to this purpose, azithromycin also acts as an anti-inflammatory. Ivermectin is used to fight parasites such as lice and scabies. Nitazoxanide, in turn, is an antimicrobial used for chronic diarrhea.

#Deliberate use of over-the-counter medications can cause harm

The infectious disease specialist Sidnei Rodrigues, from the Eduardo Menezes hospital, in Belo Horizonte, warns that self-medication can cause poisoning, cause liver and kidney changes, as well as decrease the immunity of medications occasionally used in treatments. “The person may develop allergies with a certain medication, and when self-medicating with antimicrobials to treat infections in the body, it may be that when it is really necessary, it will not take effect, because the bacteria will become resistant”, he points out.

The mixture of different drugs is also not indicated and can be harmful to health if it has not been recommended by doctors. According to Rodrigues, each medicine was designed and studied for specific health situations, and consequently, when mixing different chemical substances and without guidance from professionals, the effects can be negative and even aggravate clinical conditions. “It is a conscious use for us, as a society, to make a rational use because every medicine also has potential negative effects on people’s health.

The most suitable protocol for preventing covid-19 continues to be to remain in social isolation, to use masks, to constantly clean hands and keep a distance of at least 1.5m from other people when it is necessary to expose themselves.
