TIL for me!

This explains why dosing a subset of people in a community is nonetheless effective:

The MDA is an effective procedure to curb the menace of lymphatic filariasis. It can stop the transmission of the disease by reducing the density of microfilariae in the blood of infected people to a level at which they can no longer be transmitted by mosquito vectors to a new human host. There should be a collaborative approach in implementation of LF MDA with a legal backing. The LF MDA should be implemented in public-private partnership mode in line with polio to rein in missing cases of the disease. Door-to-door campaign should be initiated in affected areas to rein in prevalence of LF.

As of now MDA deworming is done in school children. Similarly lymphatic filariasis MDA should cover school children. Unlike MDA deworming which focuses on children in government school, filariasis MDA should be extended to children studying in both public and private schools, said Dr Aggarwal.

There's an idea: give ivermectin to every kid as they return to school, track a random sample's infection rate. Kids are almost invulnerable to the disease.
